Please make sure to review all the information well before race day to prepare for your race weekend.

Start/Finish Line Location?


The Start & Finish Line is located at Zuma Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Los Angeles County, 30050, W Pacific Coast Hway, Malibu, California (map & directions)




Course Map & Details


With a beautiful ocean side start the Malibu 5k starts near the finish line, just like the Half Marathon. From there you will exit Zuma beach and head North on the Pacific Coast Highway for a 3 mile tour of the Malibu coast. Except for ¼ mile at the start and finish, you will never lose sight of the historic coastline, which makes for a truly remarkable experience.

Designed to be similar to the half marathon route, just more approachable, runners will rave about the beauty and serenity that can be found on route. Try not to get distracted though as it is a race after all. Upon finishing, 5k runners will enjoy all the same amenities as the half marathoners and being just steps from the beautiful sands, you will be beckoned to take a refreshing dip in the ocean.

  • There will be 1 aid station.

  • A water station will be located at miles 1&2.

  • Electrolyte drink provided by Gatorade Endurance will be at miles 1&2.

  • Basic First AID will be available at the water station.

  • First Aid will be available at the Finish.

Start Corrals


Participants in the 5K will be able to choose their corral directly at the Start Line.

  • On race morning imply line up BEHIND the signs and wait for your wave to start
  • There will be signage indicating the beginning of the waves zone
  • Waves will start in 2 minute intervals




Results


All participants will be professionally chip timed by Race Day Timing LLC.

Results will be posted on the race website under Results and onsite under the Result Tent.




Gear/Bag Check


Malibu Half Marathon and 5k is committed to preserving Malibu’s natural environments; in order to comply with the recent single-use plastic ban by the City, we won’t be providing plastic bags for Gear Check. Please plan to use the bag provided with your race packet or bring your own.

Gear/ Bag Check will be available at the start / finish line area between 5:00 am and 12:00 pm.

Clearly mark your bag with your bib number (tags will be supplied by the event).

Neither Malibu Half Marathon and 5k or any of its sponsors, affiliates or volunteers are responsible for lost, stolen or damaged bags/ items. Do not leave valuables in your checked bag!!

  • Top 3 overall (male and female)
  • Top 3 age group winners in 5 year increments starting at up to age 19 through to 80+




Awards Ceremony


5K Awards Ceremony (8:30 am)

There will be an awards tent at the finish expo area. If you think have you won an overall award, simply head over to the awards tent and they will look up your name and let you know. If you have won, please stay until the awards ceremony which will take place at 8:30 am on the beach podium and where you will be presented with your trophy.

Age Group Awards

There will be an awards tent at the finish expo area. If you think you won an age group award simply head over to the awards tent after 8:15 am and they will look up your name and let you know. If you won, the volunteers will give you your prize right then and there.

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION

RACE PHOTOS


Your event photo will be professionally taken in multiple locations by Captivating Sports Photos. Photos will be available for purchase after the event. A link will be made available on the race website under photos.




SPECTATORS


Because we are such a beautiful, secluded and scenic course, it does not provide a great platform for cheering on your loved one along the course. The best place to see them running will be at the end of the course in the finish area.




FOOD AND WATER


This event is committed to preserving Malibu’s natural environments and in order to comply with the recent single-use plastic ban by the City, we will be serving water in reciclable water cups instead of plastic bottles at the finish line. Ample post-race food will be available for athletes only and includes, but is not limited to:

  • Oranges
  • Bananas
  • KIND Snack Bars
  • Bagels
  • Artisana Nut Butter Squeeze Pack
  • Pretzels
Water refil stations and electrolyte drinks provided by Gatorade Endurance, will be available at the finish.




EQUIPMENT AND CLOTHING


All participants are encouraged to bring some warm clothes and different shoes for the post-race party. Sandals feel amazing after a race!!!

  • Wear something old and warm to the start line. Simply shed the garment and we will pick it up and donate it to GOODWILL.

  • Typical race start temperature is 57 degrees.

  • Typical finish line temperature is 70 degrees.

  • Wear Sunscreen!!!!




BEER GARDEN/RESPONSIBLE DRINKING


There will be an amazing Beer Garden lining the finish line chute available to all participants and spectators 21 years of age and older. A government issued photo ID will be required.

No ID= No Entry

Beer will be available for $5.00 (cash only) and 100% of the proceeds go to our Charity Benefactors, The Boys & Girls Club of Malibu. Tickets will be sold inside the Beer Garden.

The Malibu Half Marathon & 5K would like to remind you to “Please Drink Responsibly”.




AFTER PARTY


After your race, be sure to stick around to enjoy all the vendors, massages, food, music, the BEER GARDEN and just plain fun at the beach!!!!




INCLEMENT WEATHER


In the event of inclement weather such as high heat, lightning, tornadoes, hurricanes and the like the Malibu Half Marathon and 5k, and Malibu Race Series Association reserve the right to eliminate selected portions of the course, or cancel the event in order to ensure the safety of racers, volunteers and staff.

Weather can be unpredictable. Please come prepared for chilly morning temperatures and possible fog.




COURSE CLOSING TIME


All participants are expected to be able to complete their race in 4 hours. After this time you will be asked to remain out of previously-closed traffic lanes and obey regular traffic laws. The Highway will be reopened to traffic on a “rolling basis” determined by that pace. The Finish Line will stay open for runners and spectators until 12:00 PM.




CAN I PUSH MY CHILD IN A JOGGER?


Strollers are NOT allowed on the 5K course.
