Half Marathon FAQS

  • • Opens at 5:30am

    • Participants must place items in a clear plastic bag to be provided at the event.

    • Gear check will be located in the Athlete’s Village adjacent to the start line at CSU Channel Islands.

    • All gear must be dropped off before 6:40am in order for it to be transported to the Finish Line.

    • Participants must pick up their Gear in the Finish Festival prior to boarding a shuttle back to CSU Channel Islands.

    • Gear must be picked up no later than 12:00pm. Please do not check valuables.  Gear is checked at your own risk.  The race is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged bags.

  • • Aid stations will be located at the following locations (all will provide water, portable restrooms, and basic first aid): Miles 1.5, 3, 5, 7, 8.5, 10, & 11.5

    • Gatorade Electrolytes will be provided at the aid stations at the following locations: Miles 3, 7, & 10

    • Honey Stinger Energy Gels at miles: 5 & 8

    • Note: For safety reasons due to the nature of the PCH, all aid stations in the second half of the course are located ocean-side. Outbound runners will have to cross inbound runners’ traffic to reach the aid station. Outbound runners are asked to yield to inbound runners when possible. This affects the stations at miles 8.5, 10 and 11.5.

  • Join 20 legendary Run Malibu pacers as they look to lead you to the finish line in your goal time. Look for our pacers and their goal finish time signs in the start chute and join them on your way to a strong finish!

    Half Marathon: 1:25, 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30, 2:45, 3:00

  • The half marathon will operate on a self-seeded corral system. Participants should look for the pace-per-mile signs that line the start line to seed themselves accordingly. Those that plan to walk during the race should plan to start toward the back of the pack to avoid impeding those that are running at a faster pace.

The event will utilize a wave start. At predetermined intervals (every few minutes), the next corral will be released. By using this staggered starting method, the pack will be spread out and allow every runner to settle into their racing rhythm from their first step to the finish line. This will allow sufficient room along the course for the half marathon, and at the finish line, without affecting individuals’ time or the time participants must complete the race. All runners should still plan to park at least two hours prior to their start time.

  • The half marathon has a course time limit of 4 hours.  Participants will need to maintain a pace of 20 minutes-per-mile to complete the race.  Participants unable to maintain the required pace can continue to complete the race but will be asked to remain out of previously closed traffic lanes and adhere to regular traffic laws.  Please note that this course can be very narrow on PCH. Please be mindful of runners passing and leave space for people to pass – stay alert and aware. If you are passing someone, please pass with extreme caution and ALWAYS stay within the cones.

Pacific Coast Highway will be reopened to vehicle traffic on a “rolling basis” determined by the 20 minutes-per-mile pace.

Course support including aid stations, timing mats, and post-race refreshments will be available to those that maintain the required pace. This policy is in place to ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers, and the event's success.  The Finish Line will remain open until 11:30 AM.

  • The top 3 male, female, and non-binary finishers overall will receive an award.

The top 3 male, female, and non-binary finishers in each age group will receive an award.  Please see the age groups below:

    Under 20, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+

Awards must be picked up on-site at the Awards table after the race.

  • Have your friends and family track your progress while you run your race.

Click here to sign up for text updates from different spots along the course!

  • ALL Wheelchair/Handcycle athletes must start with the general race start at 7:00 am. Due to the nature of this course, we strongly recommend that wheelchair/ handcycle and participants with strollers exercise their best judgement and approach the course with caution. This course gets very narrow at times and the shoulder of the road may be dirt.

  • Please note that all participants and spectators will need to take a shuttle back to the car parking lots post-event.

  • Celebrate your 2025 Run Malibu finish with the ultimate party! The Finish Line Festival will kick off at 8:00AM with a wide range of vendors, music, food trucks and more. Get ready to immerse yourself in #TheGoodLife
