UPDATE: JULY 16

Malibu, CA - 16/07/2020

Dear runners, we understand how important it is for you to be kept updated, especially in these uncertain times. Therefore we want to shed some light on our current situation given the latest developments related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) surge in numbers which we have been monitoring in close contact with Malibu and California state officials.

Our highest priority has always been, and remains to be the safety of our participants, volunteers, supporters and residents.

To uphold this, we had to make a very difficult decision to temporarily close registration while we prepare for a 'Plan B’. Please know that we are doing whatever we can to ensure you can participate in our annual event in some capacity.

Therefore, in the likely event that the Malibu Half Marathon and 5k cannot take place as planned, these are the options we have been working on for you:

1. A Virtual 5K and Half Marathon option (If you're thinking: "Ugh, not another virtual run!", we challenge you to give us a chance to surprise you with an exclusive Run Malibu Experience). You will still receive your race shirt and medal by mail and even a discount to sign up for future events.

2. A NEW 100-mile Virtual Challenge for the month of November.

3. 100% deferral including add-ons (bib by mail, VIP lounge access and iTAB) to the 2021 or 2022 event with no additional fee.

Note: If you switch to a virtual event all add-ons (bib by mail, VIP lounge access and iTAB) will be refunded.

We share in your disappointment and are immensely grateful for your patience and support during this difficult time. However, we are also excited to offer our runners' community a platform to stay connected and motivated during a time where we are all physically distanced.

We hope to give you an update in the coming week. Please make sure you follow our social media accounts (@runmalibu) and are subscribed to our newsletter to receive the latest news from the Malibu HQ as soon as it's released.

Your race director,

Erica

update: July 7, 2020

The Malibu Half Marathon & 5K team keeps monitoring daily developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. We recognize the personal commitment that is made by each of you and we understand how important it is for you to receive status updates on the race.

At this time, we are unable to say definitively whether or not the race will proceed and we want you to know that we are preparing for both outcomes.

Work is being done every day knowing that external factors could determine that we cannot safely hold the race. In addition, we’re also working to ensure that in the event of a cancellation, we are able to provide you with the following unique options outside of our standard event policies:

  • 100% deferral including add-ons (bib by mail, VIP lounge access and iTAB) to the 2021 or 2022 event with no additional feel

  • Virtual 5K and Half Marathon (If you're thinking: "Ugh, not another virtual run!', we challenge you to give us a chance to surprise you with something you've not seen yet!)

  • NEW: 100-mile Virtual Challenge for the month of November

If you switch to a virtual race all add-ons (bib by mail, VIP lounge access and iTAB) will be refunded.

As a community of runners and humans, we're in all of this together, and we will get through this stronger than we ever expected. Please stay active and be safe.

Your race director,

Erica
